Large chimneys are tall engineering structures designed for the discharge of flue gases and other combustion products from industrial, energy, and technological processes into the atmosphere. They are usually cylindrical constructions reaching significant heights, which ensures effective dispersion of emissions over long distances from the pollution source.

These chimneys are an integral part of factories, power plants, industrial facilities, and boiler houses where coal, gas, fuel oil, or other types of fuel are burned. The height and diameter of the chimneys vary depending on the scale of production and environmental requirements, ensuring maximum reduction of emission impact on the environment and nearby settlements.

Large chimneys can be located individually or in groups and are often combined with complexes of technological equipment and gas cleaning systems. Near such chimneys, additional structures can be found, such as service platforms, ladders, supports, and measuring instruments, which are typical for industrial landscapes.

The environment surrounding chimneys often includes production buildings, power installations, transport communications, and security zones. Depending on geographical location, climatic conditions, and season, the appearance and characteristics of chimneys may change — for example, steam plumes are often visible in winter, while in summer only a slight visible smoke cloud is observed.

Large chimneys reflect complex engineering solutions to ensure safety, stability, and operational efficiency of industrial facilities under modern environmental norms and standards.
